We’re parents too, so we understand and take our responsibility towards looking after the young people in our care very seriously.

All our leaders, regular helpers, and anyone in a position where they may be left alone with a child must undergo thorough background checks and training.

Many Scouting activities are designed to challenge young people in order to foster a sense of independence and teamwork and an awareness of risk. Their physical and adventurous nature means that we carefully balance the objectives with their abilities whilst ensuring adequate safety provision and adult supervision.

We also encourage parents to participate where possible, under the supervision of group leaders. As well as enabling us to run better activities, it’s a great way for you to see what your little ones get up to.

We are proud of the way young people enjoy our activities and take on challenges, and we have some lovely photos which celebrate their achievements. We might use them for displays in the scout hut and at events we attend. We also rely on great images to help promote our group and communicate our activities with the local community. Therefore, we may also use them (anonymously) on posters, leaflets, websites, in the press, and on our social media channels. When your child joins the group, we will ask your permission to include them in this way, and will refrain from doing so if you object

We ask that parents do not post images on social media that contain children other than their own.

We only collect the data that is necessary for us to run the group efficiently – your name and address, child’s date of birth, emergency contact details etc, and a record of their activities and achievements whilst members. In addition the paper copies of the registration forms you submit, we use a secure database called Online Scout Manager to store and process this information. Section leaders and group secretary have access to this data, and we do not share it with any other third parties unless required to do so by law. If you use our website’s contact form, or send us an e-mail, a summary of that information will be held on our website’s server.

We collect aggregated anonymised data about how people use our website in order to help us provide the most relevant content and experience.
